BTCC: DONINGTON PARK

A brilliant 2021 BTCC season ended with Ash Sutton picking up the BTCC Drivers Championship Trophy for the third time in his career in front of an appreciative crowd at Brands Hatch.

Ash, who has had an outstanding season, having led the Championship since Race Two, rounded off his of 2021 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship title-winning campaign in style by taking victory in the final race of the season.

Behind Ash, the Driver’s Championship was packed with drivers using Cobra seats.

Colin Turkington took runners up place, despite a challenging and frustrating season – a result that helped West Surrey Racing to claim the Kwik Fit MSA BTCC Manufacturers – Constructor’s title for a third consecutive season.

Colin also picked up the Goodyear Wingfoot Award which allocates points based on qualifying positions - for the second consecutive season. In fact, Turkington qualified within the top ten in nine qualifying sessions.

BTC Racing’s Josh Cook claimed wins in the first two races of the day at Brands to claim an impressive third place in the driver’s championship, just three points ahead of fellow “Cobra Driver” Tom Ingram.

Halfords Racing with Cataclean’s impressive resurgence at the end of the season was suitably rounded off with Gordon Shedden and Dan Rowbottom combining to give the team a podium finish in each of the final three races of the season: “Flash” claimed third place in Rounds 28 and 29 to push him up to 6th place in the final drivers standings, while Dan claimed second place in the final race of the season to give him ninth place in the Championship and secure him the prestigious Jack Sears Trophy by over 100 points.

Rory Butcher and Senna Proctor completed the “Cobra boys” impressive representation in the Driver’s Championship top ten.

The Brands meeting brought the curtain down on a challenging season which started devoid of spectators and ended with a great turnout at the Kent Circuit: We think congratulations are due to every driver, team, official and marshal who helped to deliver a fantastic 2021 season.
