In a brand new challenge, TV personality and racing driver Guy Martin has completely remodelled his beloved Transit van to take on one of the world’s most iconic speed records – and he chose one of the world’s most iconic racing seats to help him do it!
Three years ago, Guy crashed that favourite Transit on the way to work - and wrote it off. He was gutted, but rather than letting it go to the breaker’s yard, Guy rebuilt his van as a blisteringly fast racing machine, which he raced across the Nevada desert at speeds of up to 165 mph. Now, Guy’s on a whole new mission with his favourite van – he wants to break the van lap record at the Nürburgring in Germany – the most demanding, difficult and dangerous motor racing circuit on earth.
To stand any chance of success Guy needed a racing seat that would both provide the ultimate connectivity with his van and the highest levels of safety – so, of course, he chose to work with Telford based Cobra Seats.
The project required a total rebuild of the van, a job which took over Guy’s life for 5 months. It required him to learn the 100+ corners of the 12.9 mile Nürburgring circuit - a challenge that provided the ultimate demonstration of how a perfectly fitted racing seat can help shave valuable seconds off a lap time.
The televised attempt required everything to go perfectly for the single hour that Guy had the legendary circuit to himself for his record attempt. It was a massive undertaking which repeatedly pushed Guy and his van to their limits and, as it approached its climax, threatened to end in disaster.
